dimple door knob

designed by
6a architects

Based on the proportions and outline of an antique door knob, this version incorporates a dimple for the thumb to introduce an element of surprise and delight in touch. Created specifically and exclusively for the Raven Row Gallery in London's Spitalfields, architects 6a specified dark bronze, which evokes the charred timbers they found in photographs following a fire in the building in the 1970s.

In an extremely stripped down combination of neutral but engaged restoration and starkly simple new building, the elements which engage with touch - handles, knobs, turns, balustrades etc. - become key communicators of the architectural intent.
