Adolf Loos

Adolf Loos (1870-1933) was a pivotal figure in the development of modernist theory but also an enigmatic and complex designer whose work blended a conservative solidity and his radical reconfiguration of interlocking space known as Raumplan.

This lever was designed for the Villa Müller in 1930 and displays his peculiar blend of functional and symbolic formal languages, its heavy ball-end intended to make it easier to depress with an elbow or occupied hand, a development of a popular central European lever-type from the fin de siècle.
