Haworth Tompkins

When working on one of the most extraordinary and atmospheric institutions in London, Haworth Tompkins needed to combine a respect for the unique feel of the original mood and material feel with a modernity which addresses the contemporary. In an unusual intervention Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed designed the toilets as an installation. Treating them as a series of individual parts izé supplied a panoply of early Modernist products to introduce an ad hoc motif (which chimes with the nature of the historic building) and one which can be added to and changed in the future without interfering with the aesthetic.
