6a’s approach to the rebuilding of this pair of exquisite early eighteenth century houses in Spitalfields, east London was to create new spaces, surfaces and textures which tell a narrative of the building. The practice deisgned the ironmongery to form a critical part of that story. Rough cast in bronze, it includes models reproduced and reinterpreted from the Regency period and new knobs and fittings which appear like ghosts or memories of familiar archetypes, suspended somewhere between history and the present.
